At No. 3 Wenzhou Road, Huichuan District, Zunyi City, there is a piece of land that carries a profound historical and cultural memory - the former site of Long March Electric 12th Factory. Here, not only has it witnessed the glorious process of China's third line construction, but it has also become a new cultural landmark in Zunyi City with its unique industrial heritage charm.
Changzheng Electric Appliance Factory 12, also known as Changzheng Electric Appliance Complete Set Factory, is one of the fifteen factories under Changzheng Electric Appliance Company. It was born in the mid-1960s during the wave of Third Front construction and was a product of responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to "prepare for war and famine for the people".
In 1971, the Long March Electrical Equipment Factory, which was relocated from the Shanghai Electrical Equipment Factory, took root in Zunyi and gradually became an important electrical product and equipment supply base for industries such as power, machinery, metallurgy, and military industry in China. The BSL-19, XL-21, GG-IA and other products produced here have made outstanding contributions to the successful launch of China's submarine underwater carrier rockets and communication satellites, and have been commended by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, the Central Military Commission, and the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense multiple times.
The former site of the 12th Changzheng Electrical Appliance Factory is not only an important material evidence of the CPC leading the national people to carry out the third line construction, but also a significant historical relic of the great achievements of New China in building the national security system and adjusting the industrial layout. It carries the "Three Front Spirit" of arduous entrepreneurship, daring to fight hard, considering the overall situation, unity and cooperation, patriotic dedication, and fearlessness of sacrifice, and is an important carrier for promoting the inheritance of Third Front culture.
Now, walking into the former site of the 12th Factory of Changzheng Electric Appliances feels like traveling back to that passionate and burning era. The factory building made of red bricks is tall and neat, and the architectural layout, form, and art have basically preserved the original state of the Third Front Construction period. These factories have formed industrial architectural characteristics of large space, large volume, and large span in terms of architectural form. The simple and unadorned red brick building materials and clear exposed structural nodes showcase a unique "industrial machinery aesthetics" feature.
In the old site, core items such as the final assembly workshop, cold work workshop, material cutting workshop, paint workshop, supply warehouse, and finished product warehouse are still well preserved. In these workshops, there are still production equipment such as the 35 ton open double column tilting press, CW6140A ordinary lathe, J23-100 open tilting press used in the past, as well as precious archival materials such as congratulatory messages from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission, and thank-you letters from the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.
In order to preserve this precious industrial heritage of the third line construction and make more people remember that glorious history, the former site of the 12th Factory of Long March Electric Appliances has been transformed into the 1964 Cultural and Creative Park. The theme of the park is "creativity, fashion, leisure, and nostalgia". By preserving and transforming the original industrial sites and integrating modern cultural and artistic elements, it has become a comprehensive place that integrates cultural experience, tourism, leisure and entertainment.
In the 1964 Cultural and Creative Park, iconic buildings such as the Zunyi Third Line Construction Museum and the Zunyi 1964 Art Museum have attracted a large number of tourists to visit. The museum displays the technological products, production equipment, and historical materials produced by the former Changzheng Electric 12th Factory and the former Zunyi "Third Front Construction" enterprise, silently telling the story of the turbulent years of the Third Front Construction
